THIRD QATAR INTERNATIONAL EPILEPSY SCHOOL

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this symposium participants will be able to:

  • Identify and define the epilepsy symptoms, “from seizures to syndromes”, epileptic seizures and epilepsy syndromes

  • Identify and define generalize and focal epilepsies.

  • Learn EEG patterns in specific adult epilepsy syndromes. EEG in somnolence, stupor, coma

  • Know and manage the antiseizure drugs: drug initiation, monitoring, interactions, and withdrawal.

  • Epilepsy in special situations: women and elderly.

  • Identify the principles of neuro-imaging in Epilepsy

  • Diagnosis of Non Convulsive Status Epilepticus.

  • Define surgical procedures and indications in pre-operative assessment for epilepsy surgery including invasive EEG studies; electrocorticography; stereoelectroencephalography; cortical stimulation; cerebral function monitoring; used in the treatment of neurological disorders

  • Review the medical, and psychiatric conditions factors that affect people with epilepsy Few Sessions specific learning objectives

  • Psychiatric manifestations of epilepsies : (Speaker Dr G Melikyan ): Identify and define main psychiatric manifestations associated with epilepsy such as anxiety ,depression ,suicide attempts etc. learn how to treat these frequent comorbidities associate with epilepsy

  • Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsies: Diagnosis and Treatment (Speaker Pr Ali Asadi Pooya ); Identify and define the group of Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsies or what is now called Genetic Generalized Epilepsies ; learn about the epidemiology of theses syndromes ,their clinical and EEG manifestations , their treatment and prognosis

  • Symptomatic Generalized Epilepsies: West Syndrome,Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (Diagnosis and Treatment) (speaker Pr Thanos Covanis ): Identify and define the main symptomatic epilepsy syndromes in childhood such as West syndrome and Lennox Gastaux syndrome ; learn how to recognize their age-related clinical manifestations ,EEG and how to treat such syndromes
